UK-Born Suspect Charged in Georgia Spree That Killed DHS Employee

Investigators traced a rented Volkswagen with license-plate cameras to arrest the 26-year-old in Troup County.

Overview

  • Police say Olaolukitan Adon Abel, 26, carried out three apparently random attacks across DeKalb County in what officials called Monday's rampage that left two people dead and a third critically injured.
  • The sequence began with a woman shot outside a Checkers around 12:50 a.m., then a sleeping 49-year-old man shot near a Brookhaven shopping center, and hours later Lauren Bullis found shot and stabbed on Battle Forest Drive.
  • Georgia troopers stopped the tracked silver Volkswagen Jetta and took Abel into custody without incident, and he now faces two murder counts, aggravated assault, and multiple firearms charges.
  • DHS identified Bullis, 40, as an Office of Inspector General employee and said Abel was born in the United Kingdom, naturalized in 2022, and has prior convictions that include sexual battery and assault.
  • Investigators have not identified a motive and say the probe continues, with authorities reviewing Abel’s background and signaling more charges are possible as Bullis’ family and colleagues mourn.
