- The DWP has confirmed that benefits scheduled for Monday, August 31 will be paid on the prior working day, Friday, August 28, so affected recipients should see money arrive earlier than usual.
- HMRC and Social Security Scotland said Child Benefit payments due on Monday, August 3 will be paid on Tuesday, August 4 and payments due on Tuesday, August 4 will be paid on Wednesday, August 5.
- A wide range of regular payments can be affected, including the State Pension, Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment, Disability Living Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance and Child Benefit.
- Departments emphasise the change is automatic and most people do not need to contact DWP or HMRC; anyone whose payment does not arrive should check GOV.UK or phone their benefit office.
- Earlier payments can disrupt household budgeting because money must stretch to the next pay cycle, and State Pension dates are tied to the last two digits of a recipient’s National Insurance number which determines their usual payment day.
