UK Banks to Close 24 Branches in November as Lloyds Leads Latest Wave

Banks point to a shift to apps, with hubs and Post Office counters intended to keep cash services available.

Overview

  • Twenty-four branches will shut in November across Lloyds, NatWest, Halifax, Santander and Barclays, with 16 of the closures at Lloyds and the first set for November 3 in Thornhill, Dumfries and Galloway.
  • Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed a further 49 branch closures, taking its planned shutdowns across 2025–26 to at least 303.
  • Which? data indicates more than 6,500 UK branches have closed since 2015, with over 500 projected to shut in 2025 alone.
  • Lloyds says customers can use its apps, other Group branches, Post Office counters, shared banking hubs and over 30,000 PayPoint locations for deposits.
  • The House of Commons Library warns reduced local banking and cash access disproportionately affects elderly, digitally excluded and low‑income people and can discourage businesses from taking cash.
