Overview
- Norway and the UK issued a Request for Information to survey industry for a Joint Commando Craft programme considering up to 30 boats for coastal operations.
- The craft are specified at up to 24 metres and 60 tonnes with several days of independent endurance, targeting higher speed, survivability and manoeuvrability than current platforms.
- The vessels will support Norway’s Coastal Ranger Command and the UK Commando Force for transport, insertion and extraction across open seas and shallow coastal waters.
- The RFI seeks insights on national and international designs and on Norwegian shipyard capacity, reflecting a plan to build the fleet in Norway.
- Programme analysis reports a possible 2026–2032 procurement window, prototypes by 2028, three common-hull variants and an estimated £237 million budget, all presented as provisional and subject to refinement, with concepts highlighting networked ISR and uncrewed systems integration.
