- Several major hubs including Heathrow, Gatwick, Edinburgh and Belfast International now allow larger liquid containers in hand luggage after installing 3D CT scanners.
- Many airports such as Aberdeen, Glasgow, Glasgow Prestwick, Inverness, Liverpool John Lennon and Newcastle still enforce the 100ml limit at security.
- The new scanners produce detailed 3D images that let staff screen bags without passengers removing liquids or laptops, which can speed queues during busy periods.
- Industry adviser Neil Atkinson said the upgrades make security smoother but warned that mixed rules can catch people out if they do not check ahead.
