UIDAI Lets Residents Add or Change Aadhaar Email Through New App

The move aims to boost transparency by sending users real‑time email alerts when their Aadhaar is authenticated.

Overview

  • UIDAI rolled out an in‑app email add/update feature that went live on July 1, 2026 and will be free for six months through the Aadhaar App.
  • The update flow requires an OTP to the registered mobile and the new email, mandatory face authentication, and issues an Update Request Number (URN) so users can track the request.
  • UIDAI says updates typically appear within two to three hours and that more than 2.5 lakh people used the app to update email IDs in the first two days of the service.
  • The new Aadhaar App is available on Android and iOS and includes privacy controls such as selective attribute sharing, QR verification, biometric lock options, and an authentication history log.
  • Officials and reports give differing download and usage figures for other updates, but the government is urging residents to download or update the app to receive authentication alerts and avoid centre visits.
