UIC Issues Safety Alert as Police Probe Nearby White Castle Shooting and Car Fire

Police reported no threat to campus following a response in a campus parking structure.

  • In a 2:53 p.m. update, UIC said officers were on the third level of the Wood Street Parking Structure and that no threat to campus existed.
  • Roughly a mile away, a heavy police response secured the White Castle at Roosevelt Road and Western Avenue where a vehicle burned in the parking lot.
  • The Chicago Fire Department said crews found two people shot and a third person pronounced dead at the White Castle scene, with the cause of death for the deceased not yet confirmed.
  • Officials have not said whether the UIC alert is connected to the White Castle incident, and investigators asked the public to avoid the area as road closures were observed near campus.
