Overview
- The university dedicated the 37-acre complex on South Milledge Avenue, replacing the 1965 Spec Towns Track while retaining the Spec Towns name.
- The venue includes a nine-lane 400-meter track, 34,700 square feet of support facilities, a premier throwing area, indoor and outdoor warm-up lanes, a turf training space, and a 110-meter training hill.
- UGA scheduled two home meets this spring at the new facility: the Spec Towns Invitational on April 9–11 and the Torrin Lawrence Memorial on May 2.
- CBS reports the project is a $60 million investment and that the SEC Outdoor Championships are committed to Athens next spring, with GHSA state championships slated over the next two years.
- University leaders and coaches say the complex will elevate the program and benefit the community, with teams already training there and competition resuming Feb. 21 indoors and Mar. 20–21 outdoors.
