Overview
- The Uffizi has launched a coordinated nearly €50 million program that will run about two years and cover the Uffizi Galleries, the Palazzo Pitti, and the Boboli Gardens.
- Funding comes from Italy’s Ministry of Culture with private contributions that include a reported €5 million donation from philanthropist Veronika Atkins.
- Planned technical work includes a major climate-control overhaul with two new cooling towers to protect paintings from heat and humidity stress.
- Visitor-focused changes will rehung major galleries, install new cases, lighting and labels, create a new reception and convert Pitti spaces into additional exhibition areas to reduce crowding.
- Site-specific projects already under way or planned include the reopened Botticelli Rooms, restoration of the Boboli amphitheater and fountains, and a curatorial redesign of the Gallery of Statues and Paintings.
