UFC Enlists Association of Boxing Commissions for White House Card as D.C. Regulator Objects

The advisory arrangement addresses the lack of state jurisdiction on federal grounds to keep results official.

Overview

  • The ABC will advise on regulatory operations for the June 14 South Lawn event, and the UFC says all bouts will be officially licensed and sanctioned.
  • ABC president Timothy Shipman said no state athletic commission is required because the fights take place on federal property.
  • D.C. Combat Sports Commission chair Andrew Huff said the ABC has no authority in the District and called the move a dangerous precedent for commissions.
  • UFC executives Hunter Campbell and Marc Ratner will work with the ABC to select referees, judges, and inspectors and to coordinate medical exams and athlete safety protocols.
  • The six-fight card features title bouts Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje and Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane, will stream on Paramount+ in the U.S., and is not open to the public with a large Ellipse watch party planned.
