- Udinese staged its first practical test of UEFA’s Football Event Sustainability Manual during the home match with Cagliari on Saturday, Sept. 19, rolling out the club’s new Play for Sustainability – Our Planet programme.
- The club is the first to adopt the UEFA manual as the operational framework for a domestic league fixture, a step confirmed at a press event attended by UEFA, Lega Serie A, FIGC and the Italian environment ministry.
- Matchday measures included a 5km group bike ride and supervised bike parking, extra and free designated buses from key stations, plant‑based and locally sourced catering with surplus food donated, and stadium solar power from the Bluenergy roof.
- Udinese said it collected data on mobility, energy use, waste and catering during the fixture and will publish preliminary findings to create a baseline for annual improvement and wider, evidence‑based rollouts.
- The pilot builds on Udinese’s existing sustainability work, its high ranking in Brand Finance’s 2023 sustainability index, and Serie A’s Road to Zero effort, and could become a model for routine, measurable green practices at ordinary league matches.
