Overview
- Leader of the Opposition V. D. Satheesan flagged off the 30-day Puthuyuga Yatra from Kasaragod on 6 February, with a finale set for 7 March in Thiruvananthapuram.
- Satheesan framed Kerala as being in severe financial distress and said roughly three-quarters of the yatra will present sector-wise vision documents on jobs, health, education and reforms.
- Satheesan said the UDF will accept support from Jamaat-e-Islami, prompting CPI(M) state secretary M. V. Govindan to accuse the Congress of aligning with extremist forces.
- The UDF alleged the LDF is shielding accused in the Sabarimala temple gold case and noted the SIT has yet to file even a preliminary chargesheet.
- BJP president Nitin Nabin accused both fronts of a ‘fake fight’ over the Sabarimala gold case, pledged to make it a key poll issue and said the party would fight to ‘bring justice’.
