UConn’s Solo Ball to Miss 2026–27 After Wrist Surgery, Will Take Medical Redshirt

Hurley calls it a full-season reset to restore the guard’s health, preserving eligibility for 2027–28.

Overview

  • UConn said Monday that starting guard Solo Ball will have wrist surgery, sit out 2026–27 on a medical redshirt, and target a return the following season.
  • Ball played through a left wrist injury that first surfaced in December against Butler and his three-point accuracy fell to about 30% after shooting 41.4% the year before.
  • He averaged 12.8 points as a junior, started 74 games over the past two seasons, and has 1,153 career points with 199 made threes, which ranks 10th in program history.
  • Hurley praised Ball’s toughness and said the year off is designed to let the wrist fully heal so he can come back as an elite guard for UConn.
  • UConn expects to cover the backcourt gap with returning starters Braylon Mullins and Silas Demary Jr., plus transfers Nikolas Khamenia and Najai Hines and incoming recruits, while the redshirt preserves an experienced scorer for 2027–28.
