Ubisoft Ends Game Development at Red Storm With 105 Layoffs as Studio Shifts to Support

Ubisoft says the move is part of its cost‑saving “major reset.”

Overview

  • Internal communications reported by multiple outlets state all game development at North Carolina–based Red Storm has ceased, with 105 roles eliminated.
  • The studio will remain open to handle Snowdrop engine work as well as global IT and customer relations support.
  • Ubisoft frames the change within its January reorganization aimed at reducing fixed costs by about €200 million and consolidating production under five Creative Houses with a broader Creative Network.
  • Founded in 1996 and known for creating Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon, Red Storm most recently shipped Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR in 2023 after cancellations of Splinter Cell VR in 2022 and The Division Heartland in 2024.
  • Ubisoft says affected employees will receive severance and career transition assistance, and it maintains that Tom Clancy franchises will continue development at other studios.
