Ubisoft Announces Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake as Steam Reissue Hits Technical Glitch

  • Ubisoft revealed a full remake of Heroes of Might and Magic III for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, rebuilt in the Snowdrop engine with 3D visuals, 4K support, dynamic lighting, weather and free camera control.
  • The company said the remake will include the original game plus both expansions, present campaigns as a unified saga with a new prologue and epilogue, and add online and local multiplayer for up to eight players.
  • Ubisoft announced the remake at Gamescom and made the original Complete edition available on Steam Tuesday, August 25, with the remake pencilled for a 2027 release window.
  • The Steam relisting initially shipped only a 23.49 KB dummy executable that lacked game files, prompting negative reviews and buyer complaints before Ubisoft apologised and pushed a roughly 770 MB update about 10–11 hours later to restore playability.
  • The remake is part of a broader roadmap to revive the dormant Heroes series, but early footage and the Steam mishap have left longtime fans split over the new art direction and have increased scrutiny of Ubisoft’s handling of the revival.
