Uber Eats Rolls Out 'Cart Assistant' AI to Auto-Fill Grocery Carts

The beta turns typed lists or photos into personalized carts that account for store availability.

Overview

  • Cart Assistant is live in Uber Eats as a beta that builds grocery baskets from text prompts or uploaded images, including handwritten lists and recipe screenshots.
  • At launch it works with major partners such as Albertsons, Aldi, CVS, Kroger, Safeway, Sprouts, Walgreens and Wegmans, with more retailers planned.
  • The assistant prioritizes items from a shopper’s order history, displays prices and promotions, and lets users delete, swap or add products before checkout.
  • Uber says the feature draws on publicly available large language models alongside the company’s own AI stack, and it declined to confirm any OpenAI model use.
  • Access starts on a store’s page via a purple Cart Assistant icon, and Uber cautions the beta may make mistakes as it readies recipe inspiration, meal plans and follow-up Q&A in coming months.
