Overview
- UAW Local 2093 members walked off the job at 12:01 a.m. Monday and established picket lines at the Dauch (formerly American Axle) Three Rivers plant after their contract expired without a new deal.
- The union says the dispute centers on wages that never recovered from steep 2008 concessions, noting workers fell from about $29 an hour to roughly $14.50 then and now top out near $22 after progression.
- The UAW has filed federal unfair labor practice charges accusing the company of threatening and intimidating organizers, while Dauch called the stoppage disappointing and said it remains committed to bargaining in good faith.
- The plant makes axles and components used in GM pickup lines including the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, and GM reported about two weeks of axle inventory to cover near-term production.
- The walkout is part of a wider UAW push to press suppliers and could prolong bargaining, strain workers' finances during a sustained strike, and create downstream supply risks for automakers if talks do not quickly resume.
