Overview
- The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal, in a March 19 order, upheld the Centre's five-year designation of NSCN-K as an unlawful association starting September 28, 2025.
- Presiding Officer Justice Nelson Sailo said the group seeks a separate 'sovereign Nagaland' through secession and is waging war against the Government of India.
- The tribunal recorded operational ties with ULFA(I), PREPAK and PLA and warned the outfit could regroup, rearm and expand its cadre without strict curbs.
- The governments of Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh supported the designation during the tribunal proceedings.
- The outfit has been repeatedly proscribed over decades and is now led by deputies after S. S. Khaplang’s 2017 death, while the rival NSCN-IM continues formal peace talks with New Delhi.
