UAE to Fast-Track Three Date Processing Plants in Pakistan After High-Level Talks

An upcoming MoU will set the framework for investment-driven upgrades to boost Pakistan’s date exports.

Overview

  • UAE representative Simisola Nicola Abere told Pakistan officials the process to establish three date processing plants will be expedited.
  • Both sides said they plan to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding between Pakistan’s food security ministry and relevant UAE authorities.
  • Pakistan produces over 500,000 tonnes of dates annually across more than 100,000 hectares, largely in Balochistan and Sindh, with varieties such as Aseel, Dhakki and Muzawati.
  • Date exports exceed $50 million with growing volumes and more diverse buyers including the UAE, UK, Germany, Türkiye and Australia.
  • Officials flagged constraints—limited value addition, SPS compliance gaps, post-harvest losses and weak cold-chain capacity—which the collaboration aims to address through investment and technology transfer.
