Overview
- Two vessels operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company were attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday evening and ADNOC said there were no injuries and the situation was controlled.
- The UK Maritime Trade Operations centre separately reported a tanker was struck by an uncrewed aerial vehicle and sustained minor damage with crew safe.
- The UAE Foreign Ministry blamed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and called the strikes acts of piracy, while Iran had not immediately accepted responsibility.
- The incidents are part of a sustained campaign of attacks on ADNOC-linked ships since late February that has caused at least one crew death, roughly 20 injuries and numerous prior strike reports.
- Commercial traffic through the Strait has fallen to single- or low-double-digit daily transits, raising insurance and freight costs and complicating U.S. interdiction measures and Oman-led mediation aimed at reopening the waterway.
