UAE Fully Reopens Airspace as Dubai Airports Ramp Up Flights

A ceasefire has eased security risks, clearing the way for a careful restart across the UAE’s aviation network.

Overview

  • The GCAA, which announced the full resumption Saturday, said it ended precautionary measures after a security review and will keep real-time monitoring in place.
  • Dubai Airports said it is raising daily flight movements in step with available regional routes and coordinating with neighboring airspaces to unlock more capacity.
  • Emirates said it has restored 96% of destinations and now flies to 137 cities with more than 1,300 weekly services, equal to about 75% of pre-disruption capacity.
  • DXB’s March passenger traffic fell about 66% year over year and Q1 was down 20.6%, though the hub still handled 6 million journeys, over 32,000 flights, and 213,000 tonnes of cargo during the restrictions.
  • Flights between the UAE and India are building back, and travel agents expect ticket prices to ease as war-risk insurance costs fall and airlines add seats.
