UAE Expects Eid Al Adha on May 27–29 With Arafah on May 26

Final confirmation will follow the moon-sighting process used to set Islamic holidays.

Overview

  • Astronomer Ibrahim Al Jarwan, who spoke to The National on Monday, said calculations point to Dhul Hijjah starting May 18, Arafah on May 26, and Eid beginning May 27.
  • Khaleej Times reports the UAE Cabinet approved May 27–29 as the Eid Al Adha holiday window, with the dates to be validated closer to the time.
  • For residents with a Saturday–Sunday weekend, Arafah and the three Eid days would create a six-day break, and taking leave on Monday, May 25, could stretch it to nine days.
  • Khaleej Times also notes the 2026 Hajj season is expected between May 25 and June 30, with a possible one-day shift tied to Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting.
  • Al Jarwan said the Dhul Hijjah crescent should be visible for about 58 minutes at sunset on May 17, which is why Monday, May 18, is expected as the month’s first day.
