U2 Join Star-Studded Tribute Album for Shane MacGowan

Organisers say at least half of artists’ royalties will go to Dublin Simon Community to support causes linked to MacGowan.

Overview

  • MacGowan’s official Instagram announced that U2 and several Irish acts are joining 20th Century Paddy, a multi-artist tribute to the late Pogues frontman.
  • The compilation, titled 20th Century Paddy - The Songs of Shane MacGowan, gathers roughly 40 performers to reinterpret his songs and is scheduled for release on 13 November.
  • Two preview tracks have already been issued from the project: Bruce Springsteen’s A Rainy Night in Soho and Johnny Depp with Imelda May’s Haunted.
  • Organisers have reported that at least 50% of artists’ royalties will be donated to Dublin Simon Community in recognition of MacGowan’s ties to the charity.
  • The album collects Irish and international names such as Hozier, Jessie Buckley, The Libertines and Bob Geldof, offering renewed attention to MacGowan’s songwriting and a fundraising boost for homelessness services.
