Tyrol’s Truck Metering Triggers 46-Kilometer Backup in Bavaria as Winter Exit Bans Loom

The state is reviving weekend restrictions to keep transit traffic off village roads during the ski season.

Overview

  • Authorities limited freight to 300 trucks per hour at Kufstein Nord from 5:00–8:00 and again 10:00–11:00, producing a 46-kilometer queue into Bavaria that eased around 13:30.
  • Exit bans for through-traffic run from 20 December 2025 to 6 April 2026 in the districts of Schwaz, Imst, Kufstein, Innsbruck-Land and Reutte, with closures on Saturdays 7:00–19:00 and additionally on Sundays and public holidays in Innsbruck-Land, Reutte, Imst and Kufstein.
  • The rules apply to all vehicle types in transit, while destination, origin and resident traffic are exempt if travelers can show proof such as a booking confirmation.
  • Violations carry fines starting at about €90, and the next scheduled truck metering day at the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border is 7 January, with 30 block days planned in 2026.
  • Rosenheim traffic police and the Zentrale Ergänzungsdienste Bad Aibling managed the congestion, and officials point to prior years when the policy kept tens of thousands of cars out of village streets.
