Tyrell Malacia Signs One-Year Deal With FC Cincinnati

The former Manchester United left-back is joining Cincinnati to rebuild his career after a long injury layoff.

Overview

  • FC Cincinnati confirmed the signing Friday of Tyrell Malacia on a contract that runs through June 2027 with a club option for the 2027–28 season.
  • Malacia joined the team after a successful trial and was photographed training at Cincinnati’s facility, and General Manager Chris Albright said the club was pleased to add a player with top-level experience.
  • The 27-year-old left-back left Manchester United this summer as a free agent after a spell limited by a serious knee injury and multiple surgeries that kept him out for roughly 500–550 days.
  • Cincinnati cleared roster space to register Malacia by moving resources, reportedly acquiring an international roster slot from St. Louis CITY SC in exchange for $200,000 in General Allocation Money and using earlier roster changes such as the waiver of Matt Miazga.
  • The move gives Malacia a chance to rebuild fitness and form in MLS while Cincinnati, sitting in the Eastern Conference, adds a European international with World Cup experience who could provide depth and on-field leadership.
