Overview
- A woman was shot inside a house about 7 a.m. Saturday in the 5600 block of Agnes Avenue and later died at a hospital, police said.
- Officers found a second adult woman unresponsive just before 4 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of an auto parts shop at Independence Avenue and Van Brunt Boulevard and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.
- KCPD homicide detectives say the house victim and the suspect knew one another and that the suspected shooter left the scene while investigators already know the suspect’s name but have not released it publicly.
- Investigators describe the parking-lot attack as involving one or more shooters who fired into a group and are now canvassing for witnesses, surveillance video and other evidence at both scenes.
- Authorities are asking the public to report tips to Kansas City police or Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers as the investigations continue; the two deaths bring the city’s homicide total to 74 so far this year compared with 99 at the same point last year.
