Two Women Killed in A10 Head-On Near Ely as Tanker Driver Is Arrested

Police launch Operation Eastcote to gather witness accounts, including dashcam footage.

Overview

  • Police responded around 6:40pm on February 12 to a head-on collision on the single-carriageway A10 between Ely and Littleport involving an HGV fuel tanker and an Audi, with the lorry ending in a field and the car pushed about 100m.
  • Two occupants of the Audi — a 25-year-old driver and a 71-year-old front-seat passenger, both from Littleport — died at the scene.
  • The 40-year-old HGV driver from Basildon was uninjured, arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and bailed until May 10.
  • The A10 was closed in both directions for more than 12 hours between Comice Way and Littleport and was expected to remain shut for much of Friday as crews made the area safe.
  • Detectives opened Operation Eastcote and appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage, asking the public to quote incident 455 of February 12.
