Two Women Charged After Anzac Day Vandalism at Melbourne RSLs

Police now probe possible links across the northern suburbs.

Overview

  • Officers spotted two women tagging the Heidelberg RSL about 1:45am Saturday and arrested them after a short chase, then charged them with criminal damage and graffiti offences and bailed them to face court on May 19.
  • Reservoir RSL reported red spray‑painted slurs including “F**k Anzac” and “Death to the ADF” on its walls, and staff have since removed the graffiti.
  • Police are reviewing CCTV and appealing for dashcam footage as they assess whether the Heidelberg arrests are linked to vandalism at Reservoir and Fawkner.
  • A Fawkner sub‑branch found graffiti around 5am, following Friday’s separate defacing of Port Melbourne’s “Answering The Call” statue and a Centenary Bridge pylon that detectives are also considering.
  • RSL leaders called the attacks disgraceful and said volunteers will restore memorials, which serve as focal points for dawn services and community remembrance on Anzac Day.
