Two Teenagers Convicted of Murder Over Enfield Snapchat Row

A judge and jury found the defendants guilty after prosecutors said a social media dispute led to a high-speed e‑bike chase and fatal shooting, and sentencing is scheduled this week.

Overview

  • The Old Bailey jury found Emmanuel Popoola and Tayvon Etefia guilty of murder and of possessing a self-loading pistol with intent to endanger life on Monday, July 6.
  • Prosecutors said the victim, 18-year-old Keanu Harker, was chased on a high-powered Sur-Ron electric dirt bike on June 26 and was shot in the head and chest while riding his bicycle.
  • Court evidence showed the attack followed a dispute in a Snapchat group chat and included drill-rap videos in which members later boasted about the killing.
  • Police used hundreds of hours of CCTV, mobile phone forensics and co-operation with French gendarmes to arrest suspects after the shooting, with one defendant detained on a Eurostar platform two minutes before departure and the other arrested in Paris and extradited to London.
  • Three associates—Eliezer Mbaki, Anais King and a 17-year-old—were convicted of assisting an offender or perverting the course of justice and Popoola and Etefia face sentencing on July 9 and July 10, with families calling for action to curb youth gang violence.
