Two Rio Fires Hours Apart Disrupt Traffic and Send Three to Hospitals

  • Firefighters in Copacabana contained a building fire on Rua Ronald de Carvalho around 11:15 Tuesday, and a man was taken to Hospital Municipal Miguel Couto after heavy smoke.
  • CET-Rio and the Municipal Guard closed the street, and traffic stayed heavy on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana from Rua Fernando Mendes.
  • Hours later in the Centro, a collision on Avenida Presidente Antônio Carlos left a car on fire at the corner with Avenida Beira Mar, with firefighters dispatched at 4:10 p.m.
  • Rescue teams treated three people at the crash scene, with one released and two transferred to Hospital Municipal Souza Aguiar, and no update yet on injury severity.
  • The Fire Department, CET-Rio, and city guards followed protocol to isolate the areas for safety and to manage congestion during the operations.
