Two of Three Skeletal Remains Found in Burlington Foreclosed Home Identified

The identifications deepen an ongoing probe and raise legal questions about a June foreclosure auction.

Overview

  • A new owner found three sets of skeletal remains inside a Burlington house on June 14 after buying the property at a foreclosure auction earlier in the month.
  • Officials from the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and state police identified two of the remains as 54-year-old Sally Ann Cash and her 22- or 23-year-old son Brian Cash, with announcements posted June 22–23.
  • The third set of remains is undergoing DNA testing and the medical examiner has not yet determined causes of death for any of the victims.
  • State police say there is no current indication of criminal activity and they describe the matter as an isolated incident while the forensic investigation continues.
  • Records show prior first-responder visits in 2021 and a May 2026 alarm where entry was not made, the house was sold 'as-is' at a June 6 auction, and mortgage servicer Shellpoint has filed motions challenging the sale’s validity and seeking return of the deposit.
