Two of Four Teenagers Recovered From Yamuna as Search Continues

Monsoon-swollen currents have forced authorities to seal river stretches, keeping rescue teams searching for the remaining boys.

Overview

  • Four boys, about 15 years old, went missing after bathing in the Yamuna near Thokar No. 24 in Alipur on Sunday when strong currents swept them downstream.
  • Rescue teams have recovered at least two bodies, including one identified as Rahul and another believed to be Amandeep, while hopes for the other two fade with each passing day.
  • The National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Police and local boat clubs are coordinating the ongoing search-and-recovery operations.
  • Local officials have sealed off the affected river stretches and warned residents not to enter the Yamuna because high water and swift currents make the area dangerous.
  • A separate drowning that day in Mukhmelpur — two younger boys found dead in an unsecured rainwater pit — highlights wider risks from open water and unprotected excavations during the monsoon.
