- The Southern Delta Aquariids and the Alpha Capricornids both reach their annual maximum overnight July 30–31, according to the American Meteor Society.
- The Delta Aquariids can produce as many as about 25 meteors per hour under dark skies while the Alpha Capricornids typically yield only around five per hour but often produce very bright, slow fireballs.
- A near‑full Buck Moon (about 98% illuminated) will flood the sky and wash out many faint meteors, so observers are likely to see only the brightest trails and fireballs.
- Practical viewing tips include choosing a dark site away from city lights, giving your eyes at least 20 minutes to adapt, using a tree or hill to block the Moon, turning your back to the Moon, and scanning the sky with naked eyes rather than binoculars or a telescope.
- The Perseid shower, fed by debris from Comet 109P/Swift‑Tuttle, is already building and is forecast to peak moonless on Aug. 12–13 when sky conditions should allow far higher hourly rates for most viewers.
