Two Men Sentenced to Probation After Harvard Medical School Locker Explosion

Declining home confinement, the judge imposed probation, community service and restitution that will leave the men with felony convictions.

Overview

  • The defendants broke into the Goldenson Building at Harvard Medical School and set off a commercial firework inside a locker, causing an explosion that damaged property but did not injure anyone.
  • Surveillance video and an FBI affidavit tracked the pair in the Longwood area before the blast and showed them climbing into a construction area and fleeing after the device exploded on Nov. 1, 2025.
  • Federal agents arrested the two men three days after the incident and they pleaded guilty in April to conspiring to damage a building by means of fire and an explosive.
  • Prosecutors had asked for three years of probation with six months of home confinement and about $28,517 in restitution, but U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley sentenced each man to three years of probation, 300 hours of community service and joint restitution of $28,517.70 while declining home confinement.
  • The sentence spares the men prison time but leaves them with felony records, required apology letters to Harvard, and financial and probationary obligations that could affect work and education paths.
