Two Men Jailed for Stabbing Petrol Station Attendant After Meal-Deal Row

The sentences underline judges' use of extended licences to limit future danger to lone late-night retail staff.

Overview

  • On January 8 the lone attendant at a BP garage in Darlington was attacked after an argument over a meal-deal sandwich and was stabbed five times during a robbery.
  • The victim suffered serious wounds including a punctured liver, required plastic surgery for a deep arm injury, was treated at James Cook University Hospital and now has permanent scarring.
  • Daniel Davis, 26, and John Wilson, 38, pleaded guilty to robbery and wounding with intent and were arrested the same day.
  • Teesside Crown Court sentenced Davis to eight years and three months in prison plus a three-year extended licence and Wilson to nine years plus a three-year extended licence after the judge branded them dangerous offenders.
  • Court evidence said both men were heavily intoxicated, gained entry through an unlocked door, stole alcohol and a vape stand, and that their prior convictions and substance problems helped escalate the dispute into serious violence.
