Two Men Charged Over Daytime Knife-Point Kidnapping Attempt in Sydney’s West

Police are treating the incident as a targeted attack as forensic teams process the vehicle.

Overview

  • The alleged attack happened when a 27-year-old woman stopped to change a tyre on Browne Parade in Warwick Farm and was threatened with a knife before a man tried to drag her toward a waiting Kia SUV on Tuesday.
  • Members of the public intervened during the assault and the woman called out the SUV’s registration plate as the attackers fled, a detail police say helped narrow the search.
  • Officers arrested a 22-year-old and a 24-year-old in Auburn about two hours later and charged them with robbery armed with an offensive weapon, aggravated robbery and use of corporal violence; both were refused bail.
  • Paramedics treated the victim for facial and leg injuries and she was taken to hospital; police recovered the woman’s phone, seized it as evidence and are fingerprinting the vehicle.
  • Police describe the case as a targeted attack, say they have found no links between the victim and criminal groups so far, and investigators will present their allegations at Parramatta Court as inquiries continue.
