Two Men Charged in December Waterford Apartment Shooting

Forensic DNA linking one suspect to the scene prompted coordinated arrests by Detroit and Oakland County authorities resulting in felony charges.

  • Investigators report the victim’s return fire wounded Carmelo Buckles in the hand and left DNA evidence that tied Buckles to the scene.
  • Both suspects were located and interviewed the night of the shooting and were later released while authorities completed forensic testing and further investigation.
  • Buckles was arrested on June 4, 2026 with help from the Detroit Police Department and Ricardo Johnson was taken into custody on July 8, 2026 by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Team.
  • The Oakland County prosecutor filed charges on April 7, 2026 of assault with intent to murder and the weapons felony firearm count against both men and both await further court proceedings.
