Two Killed in Separate Rail Incidents on Biggleswade and Wrexham–Chester Lines

Police describe both cases as non-suspicious.

Overview

  • British Transport Police, called around 7am Wednesday to Biggleswade and 10.50am to the Wrexham–Chester line, said a person was pronounced dead at each scene.
  • All lines between London and Peterborough were closed for emergency work, then reopened late morning with cancellations and delays of up to about 90 minutes.
  • Transport for Wales canceled services between Wrexham General and Chester and provided replacement buses, with delays of up to 60 minutes expected into the afternoon.
  • The fatalities follow Monday’s death near Stroud on the Gloucester–Swindon route and a Tuesday incident at Evesham in which the person survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Police are not treating any of the fatal cases as suspicious and will prepare files for the coroner, while operators arranged ticket acceptance on buses and pointed passengers to support such as Samaritans.
