Two Hospitalized as Blackpool Care Home Fire Triggers Major-Incident Response

Investigators are still working to establish the cause.

  • Emergency services in Blackpool declared a major incident Wednesday night after a fire at a care home on Queen’s Promenade in Bispham.
  • North West Ambulance Service treated 21 people at the scene, and two residents were taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
  • Lancashire Fire and Rescue sent five engines and an aerial ladder platform, using breathing equipment and hose reels to extinguish the blaze before scaling back to one engine by 10pm.
  • Police said the major-incident status was later stood down, and fire investigators do not currently consider the blaze to be suspicious.
  • A cordon and local road closures remain as crews secure the site, and police said residents’ safety and welfare have been addressed.
