Two Highland Road Crashes in Peru Kill 8, Injure 15

Authorities have opened investigations into both accidents.

Overview

  • A frontal collision at km 42.5 of the Canta–Huayllay road in Pasco involved a Turismo Tacna bus and a Hyundai with plate CJY-255, leaving four dead and 15 injured.
  • Police identified the car’s driver, Michael Salazar T., 22, and two minors among the Pasco fatalities, while a fourth victim remains unidentified.
  • Emergency teams evacuated 15 injured from the bus to the Hospital de Canta, and the Morococha police station assumed the case with the Public Ministry handling legal procedures.
  • In Puno, a pickup with plate BAP-767 left the roadway and fell about 150 meters into a ravine in the Luzuni area of Sina, killing four members of one family.
  • Police and the on-call prosecutor conducted body recovery and forensic procedures at both scenes, with Puno victims confirmed as Paulino Machaca Huanca, Erasmo Javier Machaca Huanca, Marco Antonio Machaca Zapata, and Janet Zapata Hancco.
