Overview
- Ashok and Jangam Nani, head constables attached to Krishnalanka police station, surrendered on Monday and were taken into SIT custody for questioning about the alleged custodial death.
- The SIT told courts it concluded Sai Krishna died of injuries suffered in police custody and said station CCTV footage was deliberately deleted while the body was taken to an undisclosed site with alleged attempts to bury or burn it.
- Suspended Circle Inspector S.S.V.V. Nagaraju was arrested by the SIT on June 23 and a city court sent him to judicial remand until July 8.
- Investigators have also arrested crime constable Babu Rao and traced a close associate of the suspended CI, known as Suresh, to Bengaluru for questioning as the probe expands.
- The victim’s mother has filed a habeas corpus petition and sought a CBI investigation while the Andhra Pradesh High Court has adjourned the probe-related hearing to July 15, keeping the case under active judicial review.
