Two Gunmen Open Fire on Motorist in River North, Police Say

The case marks the first recorded shooting victim in River North this year.

  • A dark-colored sedan pulled up, two men exited with guns, opened fire on the parked motorist, then fled in the vehicle; no arrests or suspect descriptions were released.
  • Multiple 911 callers reported nine to twelve shots, and responding officers recovered both rifle and handgun casings at the scene.
  • The 26-year-old victim was struck three times in the right leg, drove himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and was listed in good condition.
  • Gunfire also hit another vehicle and contributed to a crash without injuries, and CWB Chicago reports this is the second person shot on the Near North Side in 2026.
