Two Firefighters Killed After Wall Collapses During Greater Noida Chip Factory Fire

Authorities ordered a PWD structural audit to determine whether construction flaws or faulty fire-safety systems caused the collapse.

Overview

  • The fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, Aug. 4, at an electronics PCB/chip unit in Ecotech-3, Greater Noida, and drew multiple fire tenders and SDRF teams to the scene.
  • A first-floor side wall and an iron beam collapsed onto firefighters during cooling operations, trapping five personnel who were pulled from the debris and rushed to hospital.
  • Fireman Rohit Yadav and Head Constable Driver Tirathpal Singh died in hospital, while three colleagues — Rajpal Singh, Manish Kumar and Amit Kumar — are injured and reported to be out of danger.
  • Police have launched legal proceedings and an inquiry is under way to find the blaze’s origin, with investigators probing possible short circuit or battery-related causes and whether installed firefighting systems worked.
  • The Public Works Department has been asked to conduct a structural audit of the factory and authorities say further action, including FIRs or regulatory steps, will follow depending on the probe's findings.
