Two Fatal Two‑Wheeler Crashes Kill Riders in Colorado Springs

Police have opened active investigations into both June 15 crashes with preliminary findings that differ on whether speed or alcohol played a role.

Overview

  • The first crash happened Monday morning around 9:15 a.m. at Briargate Parkway and Lexington Drive when a motorcycle and a vehicle collided and the motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Police say the driver of the vehicle in the Briargate Parkway collision was not injured and that speed is being investigated as a possible factor in that crash.
  • Officers were called to a separate crash near the 400 block of North Circle Drive about 12:40 p.m. Monday where a scooter rider was taken to a local hospital and later died.
  • Investigators told reporters that speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors in the North Circle Drive crash at this time and that both incidents remain under active CSPD investigation.
  • Authorities have not released the victims’ identities or any charges and the El Paso County Coroner will handle identification as investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
