Two Early-Morning Fort Worth Crashes Kill Two, One Driver Detained

Fort Worth police say their Traffic Investigation Unit is handling active probes and has withheld victims’ and suspect’s names pending further work.

Overview

  • A man was struck and killed after stepping out of his vehicle to inspect a minor crash on the southbound South Freeway near East Ripy Street early Sunday morning.
  • The vehicle that hit the pedestrian left the scene but its driver was later located and detained by police.
  • A separate, unrelated minor crash occurred directly behind the freeway incident and sent occupants to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Around 4:30 a.m. the same morning, a wrong-way crash on State Highway 121 near Sylvania Avenue left one driver dead at the scene and another hospitalized with an unreported condition.
  • The Fort Worth Police Department is continuing investigations, has not released names, and the Traffic Investigation Unit will provide more details after next-of-kin notification and further work.
