Two Early-Morning Crashes in Catalonia Leave Two Dead and Several Injured

Catalonia's interurban road death toll is now 76.

Overview

  • A car left the C-1415a near Castellar del Vallès at about 05:00 on Sunday, July 12, and struck a tree, killing a 16-year-old rear-seat passenger and injuring three others who were taken to Hospital Parc Taulí and Mútua de Terrassa.
  • A head-on collision on the C-12 between Aldover and Tortosa at 08:33 the same morning killed the van driver and left the car driver with less serious injuries who was taken to Hospital Verge de la Cinta.
  • Both scenes drew large multi-agency responses with Mossos d'Esquadra patrols, Bombers de la Generalitat crews that carried out extrication in Castellar, multiple ambulances and SEM psychological support teams.
  • The crashes temporarily closed the C-1415a and C-12 with signposted detours until mid-morning and were added by the Servei Català de Trànsit to this year's interurban fatality count.
  • Authorities have completed on-scene operations and reopened the roads, investigations into the causes are ongoing, and the incidents add to official figures showing 76 deaths on Catalonia's interurban network so far this year.
