Overview
- Isaiah Olivas, 27, was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI involving death after he allegedly rear-ended a disabled Hyundai on southbound I-90 near Randolph Street on March 15, killing two people who were in the car.
- Paul R. Ong, 37, was charged with one count of aggravated DUI involving death after an SUV struck three Illinois Tollway maintenance workers on I-294, and a judge ordered him detained at a Skokie Courthouse hearing this week.
- The tollway workers were parked on the right shoulder with emergency lights and reflective gear when they were struck and 52-year-old Calvin L. Holley later died at a hospital.
- Investigators say Ong refused a breath test, had a blood alcohol reading of .101 four hours after the crash and believe his BAC was about .161 at impact while evidence shows he was driving at speeds up to 93 mph seconds before the collision; Olivas surrendered to state police and remains in custody.
- Officials and the Illinois Tollway urged drivers to obey Move Over/Scott's Law to protect responders and roadside workers, and prosecutors' filings and upcoming hearings will determine pretrial monitoring, possible detention and next steps in both cases.
