Overview
- Early Friday morning officers responding to a report of a man brandishing a gun at the Pantheion Club followed the suspect in a white tow truck to a Citgo near Inkster and Van Born where a gunfire exchange occurred.
- Two plainclothes members of Dearborn’s special investigations unit were struck by gunfire, treated at hospital and have been released to recover on paid leave.
- Officers returned fire and hit the 32-year-old Detroit man, who briefly fled, discarded two handguns from the tow truck, was arrested on Stanfield Road in Inkster and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
- State troopers are leading the active investigation with at least a dozen agencies on scene, dozens of evidence markers, K-9 searches and a canvass for witnesses and video.
- The shooting comes the same day as multiple shootings in Detroit that left several people wounded and one dead, prompting community groups to urge tip reports and raising local safety and police-accountability concerns.
