Two Dead in Easter Morning House Fire on Detroit’s East Side

Investigators are reviewing a scene where interior conditions hindered rescue access.

Overview

  • Firefighters responded to the 4900 block of Ashley Street after a neighbor’s 5:30 a.m. Sunday call about a home on fire.
  • Crews arrived within about five minutes and saw flames along the side of the house and a vehicle in the driveway.
  • Firefighters found a woman with severe burns, carried her out to EMS, and she was later pronounced dead.
  • A man was located inside the home and was already deceased.
  • The Detroit Fire Department says difficult interior conditions slowed access to the occupants as investigators work to determine the cause.
