Two Charged With Murder of Eight-Week-Old in Lincolnshire

Police say a prolonged Major Crime Unit inquiry produced charges and the case will now progress through the criminal courts.

Overview

  • Lincolnshire Police have charged 26-year-old Liam Neve and 26-year-old Lauren Murgatroyd with murder and a range of related offences including causing or allowing a child’s death and counts of serious bodily harm.
  • Officers were called to a property in Bourne where an eight-week-old baby was taken to hospital and later died, prompting the long-running investigation.
  • Detective Chief Inspector Andy McWatt described the probe as complex and large-scale and said investigators were now in a position to charge two people in connection with the death.
  • Both defendants appeared or were due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court and the most serious charges are expected to be sent to the Crown Court for trial.
  • The charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent; the case has drawn sustained police resources and community concern and will determine responsibility through the court process.
